Parental Pride and Passion

Today I came across this really amusing yet poignant postcard on a modern-art website called Post Secret.

I wanted to share this because it is the voice of an ordinary parent. The sheer amount of pride he exudes towards his gay son in just one simple sentence is really touching. Equally I believe it radiates an important message for parents to be proud of their children whoever they are, whether religious or not!

  1. I really love that you've put this as a post. I love this website, I think the combinations of art and confessions is fascinating! Have you found any similar images? Also, are there any regular confessions sites like this?

  2. Hi there, I’m glad you found this image as heart-warming as I did! I think it’s so encouraging that this boy has created so much pride!!!

I’ve had a quick look and if you type in ‘Post Secret Gay’ into Google images a few amusing ones come up. Equally, here is a blog-post written last year about Post-Secret postcards from from “Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, and Transgenders!”, check it out by following this link here

I think the one that most upset me was the 11th one down about the Uncle who died of AIDS and whose Mum thinks he is burning “in hell”. It is so sad to think that when people find out their kids are gay they may not only change their opinion on them but completely disown them. Should it be like this? Are these actions justified? Even if you are religious I can’t see how…AT ALL. It baffles me how you could abandon your child for something they have no control over! I think that’s why I find the picture I posted so encouraging to see!
*Also, I’ve now just had a flick through some of this girls blog-posts and although they’re not from a religious point of view it’s a really wonderfully written blog which lots of GREAT posts. If you have time please check it out, here’s a link to the homepage of the blog titled ‘A Rainbow In A World Of Clouds’
